Wood Fines Pulping (Circularity – Celbi)
Potential future developments
This innovation has significant replication potential across EU pulp mills, supporting the EU Green Deal’s resource efficiency targets. Future improvements could include processing more diverse bio-residues, creating local jobs in equipment manufacturing and operation, and further cutting emissions through optimised energy integration.
Current contribution
This first-of-its-kind system enables continuous cooking of wood fines, rejects, and non-wood materials, improving raw material utilisation and pulp yield (+2.5%). It reduces wood transport needs and related CO₂ emissions, internalises waste streams, and advances circularity within the mill. As a “Made in Europe” technology, it supports resource efficiency, strengthens regional forestry value chains, and demonstrates leadership in bio-based industrial processes.
