MM Board & Paper – Moulded Pulp: Revolutionising fibre-based packaging

MM Moulded Pulp is an innovative packaging technology developed by MM Group in response to the growing need for sustainable alternatives to plastic. The solution is made from sustainably sourced wood fibres, water and natural additives, resulting in a material that is fully renewable, recyclable and compostable.

Using advanced pulp‑moulding and thermoforming techniques, the technology enables the creation of precise, smooth and visually appealing packaging components that match or even surpass the quality of traditional plastic packaging. Various finishing options allow for customisation and complex shapes, supporting both functional and premium brand requirements.

The project emerged in the context of increasing environmental regulations such as PPWR and SUPD, alongside rising market pressure to reduce plastic waste. MM Moulded Pulp serves industries including Beauty & Personal Care, Healthcare, Electronics, and Food Specialties, offering safe, aesthetic and highly sustainable packaging solutions. The technology combines strong protective performance with a significantly lower environmental footprint, setting a new standard for responsible packaging innovation.

Potential future developments

MM Moulded Pulp will continue to strengthen its competitiveness by expanding production capacity and enhancing technological capabilities. New tooling and equipment being installed this year will improve efficiency, enhance product quality and allow a wider range of applications to be served. Manufacturing operations are powered by green energy, reinforcing the commitment to decarbonisation and supporting customers in reducing the environmental impact of their supply chains.

Growing demand for fibre‑based solutions is expected as regulations tighten and society increasingly prioritises low‑carbon, renewable materials. Ongoing optimisation of processes, investment in advanced automation and improvements in energy efficiency are expected to further reduce the carbon footprint of operations.

Employment levels are projected to rise alongside capacity growth, strengthening local skills and contributing to regional economic resilience. In parallel, new markets are being explored where the technology can support the transition away from plastic and advance circular economy objectives.

Through strategic investments, sustainable energy use and continued market development, MM Moulded Pulp is positioned to evolve into a leading European player in next‑generation, fibre‑based packaging that meets both industry requirements and societal expectations.

Current contribution

MM Moulded Pulp contributes to the EU bioeconomy by combining sustainable materials, regional manufacturing and strong economic growth. Our packaging is produced entirely in Poland from locally sourced wood fibres, supporting responsible resource management and reducing transport emissions thanks to short supply chains. The fibre‑based, fully renewable and recyclable material replaces conventional plastics and helps companies advance their decarbonisation goals by enabling a significantly lower carbon footprint throughout the product lifecycle.

The project has also created strong socio‑economic impact: within the past year, our workforce has expanded more than fourfold, covering both blue‑ and white‑collar positions, strengthening industrial skills and local employment. At the same time, projected revenue between 2025 and 2026 is set to increase by more than three times, confirming both market relevance and the scalability of the technology.

By integrating sustainable raw materials, advanced manufacturing and regional development, MM Moulded Pulp showcases how European industry can drive the transition toward a circular bioeconomy while supporting economic resilience and accelerating the shift away from fossil‑based packaging.
