MM Board & Paper – MM X-LINER® FREEZE – High-performance, moisture resistant recycled liner for cold chain corrugated packaging

MM X-LINER® FREEZE was developed by MM Board & Paper, part of the MM Group, one of Europe’s leading producers of cartonboard and paper‑based packaging. The company operates production sites across Europe and focuses on renewable, fibre‑based materials, with a strong emphasis on consumer packaging. Its innovation approach brings together product safety, regulatory compliance and sustainability, with a clear focus on recyclable, bio‑based packaging made in Europe. MCM® FREEZE is produced in MM Board & Paper´s mill MM Neuss, Germany.

MM X‑LINER® FREEZE is a high‑quality recycled liner designed to offer strong protection against moisture. A special surface treatment helps reduce water absorption, allowing the packaging to perform reliably during transport and storage, even in cold or humid conditions.

The liner provides good strength and stability, a bright appearance, and works well for both pre‑printed and post‑printed packaging. It is commonly used for chilled and frozen foods, fruit and vegetables, beverages as secondary packaging, detergents, shelf‑ready packaging and other non‑food applications.

MM X‑LINER® FREEZE was developed to meet the growing demand for fibre‑based packaging that performs well in cold supply chains. It shows how recycled liner materials continue to evolve, supporting reliable, recyclable packaging and helping reduce the need for plastic‑coated alternatives.

Potential future developments

MM X‑LINER® FREEZE is well positioned to further strengthen the role of recycled fibre‑based liners in chilled and frozen supply chains, where demand is rising due to convenience trends and retail logistics requirements.

The liner’s reliable performance in demanding climates also supports efficient logistics and reduces product losses, contributing to overall resource efficiency.

As a “Made in Europe” innovation, MM X‑LINER® FREEZE demonstrates how established liner products can evolve through targeted technologies.

Current contribution

MM X‑LINER® FREEZE contributes to the EU bioeconomy by supporting fibre‑based packaging solutions that work in chilled and frozen supply chains. It helps corrugated packaging stay strong in cold and humid conditions, making it possible to replace plastic‑coated materials with a recyclable, paper‑based alternative.

Produced in Europe at MM Neuss (Germany), the innovation supports regional value creation, skilled industrial employment and know‑how in recycled paper and liner production.

As a “Made in Europe” innovation, MM X‑LINER® FREEZE demonstrates how traditional recycled liner products continue to evolve through technologies. It strengthens Europe’s leadership in sustainable, high‑performance corrugated packaging, supporting circular material use, reducing reliance on fossil‑based coatings and reinforcing the role of the forest‑based sector in the EU bioeconomy.
