MH+Forest

MH+Forest is a project that focuses on regenerative tourism. Its goal is to protect both people and the environment from the threat of forest fires.

Monte Holiday Ecoturismo, through its MH+Forest initiative, proposes a regenerative tourism model that integrates forest fire prevention with renewable energy production. Located in an area at risk of wildfire in Spain, the project uses forest residues and byproducts from forest maintenance around the ecocamping site as biomass fuel for its heating systems. This innovative approach not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels but also actively contributes to forest fire risk mitigation, creating a virtuous cycle where increased tourism supports greater investment in local forest management.

Potential future developments

Scaling up the model to include neighbouring communities or public lands: MH+Forest model could be replicated in other wildfire-prone areas across Europe. In this case increased tourism and energy demand could allow for more investment in biomass infrastructure and forest care. This self-reinforcing cycle can strengthen both energy resilience and environmental safety.

Promoting policy support to prioritise prevention over suppression: As Europe faces increasing wildfire threats, MH+Forest presents a forward-looking, community-based solution that harmonises tourism, sustainability, and proactive action instead of wildfires suppression actions.
