With further optimisation, Altri’s kraft mills could approach zero-effluent operations, setting a benchmark for EU industries. Water reuse innovations could be exported to other sectors, enhancing European leadership in industrial water management while sustaining jobs and protecting local water resources.

Current contribution

Altri’s membrane bioreactor (MBBR) and ultrafiltration technology enables near-zero suspended solids in wastewater, paving the way for water recirculation. This directly supports EU water stewardship goals, reduces freshwater dependency, and benefits regional ecosystems. It also aligns with the company’s 2030 target of 10 m³/ADt water use, a significant benchmark for sustainable pulp production.
