Biomethanol to Kiln (Circularity – Celbi)
Potential future developments
Beyond internal energy use, biomethanol could supply Europe’s growing demand for sustainable maritime and road fuels, supporting a broader transition away from fossil fuels. Expansion could drive investment in bio-refinery capacities and create jobs in the renewable fuels sector.
Current contribution
By recovering and purifying biomethanol from kraft pulping condensates, Altri replaces fossil natural gas in lime kilns, achieving up to 95% CO₂ emissions reduction. This strengthens energy autonomy, cuts operational costs, and aligns with EU decarbonisation pathways. As a by-product valorisation initiative, it reinforces the circular bioeconomy and maximises the utility of renewable feedstocks.
